It depends. You can discriminate even against a protected class if your interest is compelling enough.

Look at polygamy. You have religious freedom bumping up against marriage "as we accept it"- and marriage as we accept it won.

Can you cite a federal case that uses the equal protection clause to protect disabled people as a class? Other than the federal disabilities act which extends protection to the disabled IN THE WORK PLACE I am unaware of the application you cite--or were you just speculating about it?
