This is where you and I differ; not left-right but rather the actual importance of trends and events in politics when the rubber meets the road and the voters enter the booth. A slight difference over decades may have academic import, and could/might/maybe/possibly/theoretically have some possible hypothetical impact in future races, but it hasn't added up to anything that change the usual ideological cycle of American politics (as in who is elected and governs) since the 1960's.

My point is that lefties or righties who fantasize about a different outcome are kidding themselves, regardless who makes a marginal gain in power or influence.
