going to go= become successes, yes.

sent a much larger share of the nation's wealth into semiconductors and other things tech than could possibly have been justified. It sounds to me like those former technology companies have now become investment banks. Witness Bill Gates jamming a lot of $$$$ into Newport News shipbuilding and Pacific Ethanol.

Yes indeed, but apparently this has happened before, in the 80s IBM had so much $$ they were nothing more than an incubator of all kinds of stuff nobody thought had anything to do with their core business.

At this moment the best hope for the US economy is our startup incubation climate, nobody can match it, not even close. It is centered in silicon valley so people think this is isolated to computers which is wrong, imho. These energy plays are going to take off soon.

From this article below, which is a stealth company, note the date is THIS MONTH, and the bold part below and keyword "factory". This is a manufacturing industry that cannot be offshored. We will experience a new boom because of this. The only question is when.

Meanwhile John Maudlin who is sitting in timbuktoo or whereever is predicting $250 oil and a bunch of hysterical americans with no alternatives but deep depression.

Secretive hydrogen fuel company, Ion America , raises $103M

Ion America, the secretive Silicon Valley (Moffett Field) start-up apparently developing a fuel cell to produce hydrogen and electricity to power cars and trucks, has raised $103 million in its latest equity financing, its fourth round.

That is a lot of money, and we are not surprised, because the hand of Silicon Valley firm New Enterprise Associates is behind this one -- and the firm, fresh from raising one of the largest venture funds ever, is getting aggressive in pushing investments in green technologies. (It is a hot sector right now, and it is one that can absorb a lot of cash, because presumably factories will be built down the line). Ion America filed a statement about the financing at the Securities & Exchange Commission, and VentureWire reported on it this morning (subscription required).
