More likely Peter Galbraith will get his wish and Iraq will be partitioned in practice, and maybe formally.

Like you, I keep coming back to it. Among the negatives, however, was Pollack and Bynum's argument that Turkey and Iran would be upset because it leads to an independent Kurdistan with immediate claims on Turkish and Iranian territory.

I don't think that should be seen as a deal killer. But it's a serious stumbling block.

Let's hope some country with serious diplomatic skills would do the negotiating. We know one who lacks that. ;-)
