Problems like this are partially due to design (or cheap design with a lack of utility conduits), and partly due to the problems of construction and inspection inherent in stick-built homes built in-site. Lennar does build cheap homes at "popular prices" as they might say.

Some builders like Pardee avoid these quality problems by having most of the utility-rich portions of each home built in a factory. This way there are no weather delays, part of each module are assembled by robotics, and each home segment can be built on a line with jigs and other aids which assure accuracy.

While most of the assembly techniques and materials used are identical, they come out better when built in a factory setting than on-site.
