Yeah.. that STF technology has some real promise in decreasing the weight of the average set of "battle-rattle"..

I know I absolutely hated wearing mine while I was over there. With my ceramic plates, my kit weighed in at just under 40 pounds. I normally laid it out on my top bunk just in case my hooch took a mortar hit at night. Knew it was a vain hope that it might catch some shrapnel should I take a hit, but it helped me sleep a little better.. ;0)

What's particularly encouraging is that it might actually permit the development of flexible battle uniforms impregnated with the substance that would cover limbs and joints.

And of course, for the purpose of bullet proofing our vehicles, it would be far lighter than the current armor plates we're bolting onto them (a weight most of those vehicles were never designed to handle).
