Apple buying NAND flash to help spur prices soon, says
Esther Lam, DigiTimes.com, Taipei [Wednesday 23 August 2006]

A-Data Technology is confident that the listless NAND flash price trend will reverse by late August due to recent procurement by Apple from chip makers, according to company chairman Simon Chen as cited in a Chinese-language Economic Daily News (EDN) report.

Chen noted that Apple recently started restocking its NAND flash supply to meet the upcoming seasonal demand and that the recently launched large memory capacity MP3 player from SanDisk also supplies the market with positive news.

DRAMeXchange said that Apple has recently placed orders with Samsung Electronics and Hynix Semiconductor, but though the amount requested is double that ordered from April to July, the order doesn't represent a meaningful growth on a yearly basis. Demand is also slow due to the summer holiday in Europe and it is unlikely to see any critical upturn in the short term, the memory-trading firm noted.
