Instead of more compensation, you tended to get all sorts of perks that didn't count as income for the executive.

Now that I think about it, that may have been part of the impetus for the employee benefit mess we're in now. High marginal rates caused the health benefits crisis. LOL.

I'm comfy wading into tax discussions, but I have no way to assess what's going on with economic equality. It doesn't "feel" to me like the spread has gotten worse. And I don't have the numbers to demonstrate it either way. I don't think this is just about taxes or even primarily about taxes. Do you?

Krugman is an example of how more education results in a higher income.

Shouldn't need an example of it. It's perfectly obvious.

But that's not all that was said re Krugman. I thought Samwick's comments were too snotty and too personal.
