re: Why are we not going after the problem on overtime?

Because nobody has defined the problem as a part of the "war on terror". And becoming energy independent is the most effective way to "wage war" on terrorism <rather than fund it>.

We cannot kick the oil habit in the short run

The problem is we are not even trying. There is no structured plan with objectives and goals. There has been no attempt to encourage voluntary conservation among Americans. Instead, Congress agreed to increase subsidies to the oil industry.

Why do you continue to excuse this administration and its Congress? They have done very little right in the past six years? And they have done very little to help the energy crisis other than to start wars.

Then you wonder why people are angry and rude with you.

I agree with you. This problem needs to be tackled with many different solutions. It boggles my mind that we are doing so little. But that's Bush for you. He's so focused on Iraq, he can't see past his nose to solutions that can solve the Middle East problem, our economic problems, and the environmental problem, all with one solution...energy independence.
