You're trying to tell me that Saddam was suddenly a convert to fundamentalist Islam after Desert Storm???

Convert? Not likely. But certainly someone who recognized that appealing to the muslim fundamentalists/militants was one means of protecting his regime from being attacked by them, while also providing him the means to achieve a measure of revenge against the US and the west.

He was spending quite a bit of money on building mosques in Iraq, something that a "secular" leader with major cash flow problems normally would not do.

And the evidence of involvement between the IIS, Saddam, and Al Qai'da is further proof that he felt it to be in his interests to appeal to the Jihadists.

Now ask yourself something. Iraq is in an insurgency, right?

One would assume that those insurgents would be remnants of the former Ba'thist regime, right?

So how many of those insurgent groups actually proclaim that their agenda is to return the Ba'thists to power?

Do you ever hear reports in the news about Ba'thist insurgents blowing up some building, or group of civilians?

No. All you hear about are Jihadists, and religious militants conducting these attacks. Al Qai'da/IZ, Ansar Al Sunnah... etc, etc..

So now you tell me whether Islamic-Militancy was a major trend in Iraq.

You seem to be trying to establish some sort of viable Al Qai'da connection to Iraq, but I don't buy that either.

You're wrong, but go ahead and continue believing it if you wish..
