Hi kumar_rangan; Re: "In 2002 I had threats soon after 9/11. FBI got involved." and cell phones.

If the above was not enoug, I would think that reading this thread would make it pretty clear that a substantial number of people in this country are off their rocker with paranoia about terrorists. Under that circumstance, it can be inconvenient to stick out.

Cell phone update: The guys arrested in that incident posted bail and plan to head back to Texas. The charges were: "The federal complaint alleges the men defrauded consumers, TracFone Wireless Inc. and Nokia Corp. by buying the prepaid phones and removing TracFone's proprietary software, making it possible to use the handsets with any cellular provider."
dfw.com

But the actual defrauding of customers was by Walmart. They were selling the phones at less than their manufacturing cost and expecting to make up the loss by selling over priced prepayment plans. The feds, by pressing charges, are protecting the sleazy corporation's bait and switch by putting pressure on the people who would otherwise provide the customers with cheaper phones with cheaper plans. I would think that the charges will eventually be dropped, but there will still have been an incredible expense for these guys.
