Alot of powerful people need to wake up all over the world, and they better do it real fast. Things are accelerating the wrong way...downward....and alot of us have this vision that all we gotta do is to make a few changes and set new, more conservation-minded goals, elect politicians that think likewise. Not-gonna-do-it. Oh, and by the way, trees are now disappearing at an alarming rate. Also, where are the public service announcements that tell us all the different ways we could conserve energy?? I see them on teen pregnancy, AIDS prevention, quitting smoking, etc. etc., every single day. But all of this says nothing about our industrial energy waste, which is the other 80-90% part of the iceberg, and is absolutely huge. We consumers are not going to change much here by simply flipping off light bulbs, turning down the T-Stat, buying more efficient cars, taking less trips to wherever, car-pooling,or singing songs and holding hands. None of this is going to make any difference that is worth noting, but maybe some folks will feel better as we go down the toilet. I am not sure of this, but I think I saw somewhere that the main american contributor to our energy use / waste is our military complex, which would, of course, include the contractors that build military equipment. I also recently read something on how the Keoto (or Kioto?) Accords are all but dead in Europe. I will have to look to see if I can find something on this too. The oil industry is not at all on board for alt. energy or nuclear power at this point. Exxon, the largest by far, put out something on this about a year ago...that they have no plans on doing anything with alternatives because they will only add up to about 10% in the next 15-20 years (I think). Whatever the number of years though, they are not doing anything on conservation other than maybe some well placed lip service. And they, along with many other very powerful companies, get many of our leaders elected since they contribute to their campaigns. (and of course, we have oil men as our elected administration) As far as global nuclear.....You gotta be kidding. I cannot even imagine how every country in the world could, at some point in the future, go nuclear. what a joke this is. I don't care how good the freaking technology has become. I could go on and on, but people need to "get real" fast 'cause it ain't happnin'! ....and that's an understatement! sorry again. Ok, now I'm really done!!
