I think the main thing the analyst was trying to say is that the beta(actually a beta 2), at this point in time prior to the release of the final product, is much more unstable for being a beta2 product being readied for release and doesn't work with many of the applications/peripherals that it needs to work with.

That pretty much describes every *release* version of Windows through Win 2000. XP was better in this regard as it was mainly a cosmetic upgrade so the fixes and lessons learned from W2K stayed intact but was not substantially more stable than it's predecessor.

I have no experience with windows so I don't know. Do you know users that are beta testers and if you do, what are they saying?

Vista is the first release of Windows I haven't been hands-on with so I'm relying on third-party accounts which have generally said it's 'not bad.' The most frequent complaints (new to Vista) have been around the new security scheme as being to aggressive in alerting users and requiring confirmation to perform routine operations.

That is it. I've used previous betas of Windows. Vista is the most unstable. Had to remove it within a week.
