However, they failed to demonstrate any part of their mission once they escalated the hostage situation to a full fledged declaration of war.

I would concur, although one objective has been achieved, forcing Lebanon to deploy its army along the border with Israel. And that means that Lebanon will now be held responsible for any activities that occur at that border. This is an important achievement which was never achieved over the past 6 years.

But no, it doesn't accomplish the disarming of Hizbullah at the moment. But so long as they aren't flinging rockets, or conducting incursions across the border, then it's Lebanon's problem.

Why aren't we invading the country that kidnapped the fox reporters?

For one, if we went to war everytime an American living or visting a foreign country was kidnapped or murdered, we'd be invading every country on earth.. ;0)

However, if those kidnappers had crossed into US territory and spirited their hostages back to Gaza, AND the Palestinian Authorities were taking no action at all to find them and arrest the perpetrators?? THEN, we have a casus belli to engage in military action because the kidnapping would effectively represent a state-sponsored act of aggression.

But those reporters were in Gaza and unfortunately, they became targets. And if the PA fails to take actions to free them, we still can assert further political and economic sanctions. And if their level of negligence in obtaining their release crosses over to actual support of the kidnapping, then that could also become a casus belli for military action (although unlikely).
