Clarksterh --
""Forcing a 'buy American' approach won't force us to save more, which is what we really need to do""

If all oil imports ceased and were replaced my US/Canada manufactured oil costing $30-$35/bbl instead of $70,
then you and I would save possibly $0.80/gal on gasoline/diesel fuel purchases. What each family did
with this savings would be an individual choice.

The US might be able to save on military spending to
if the world oil price fell and various countries that hate the US saw their oil revenues drop sharply.

Clark,

I for one am not suggesting price controls. This problem stems from a lack of vision and innovation. The only way to stop the U.S. from ending badly like Rome did, is to become creative again... we have been resting on our proverbial laurels.

There are soooooo many things we can try to do, without one specific panacea, but some of that vision needs to come from the top. We are in the middle of a "Christian Holy War" where any idea for improvement is stopped at the "religious wall" of this administration. As one example, let's look at stem cell research. Need I say any more?

It used to be that the measure of a country's worth was all its goods, services, and natural resources combined. The U.S. has "due process" which made it an enviable place to work and live. Pretty soon we will be nothing more than expensive beach front property.
