"Do you have a link that says the preponderance of scientific evidence was for a "new glacial period"? "

There is significant evidence that if it wasn't for all the CO2 being pumped into the atmosphere, we would be well into a cooling cycle. There are some who think that what really ended the Little Ice Age was the build up in CO2 that finally got high enough in the 1800s to start the warming trend that we are experiencing now.

Glaciation has been the norm for our planet for the past few million years. Warm periods have been rare and relatively short, on the order of 12,000 years. Since this interglacial period started about 10,000 years ago, we should be cooling down now.

I will look for that but actually that was the talk of that time. Claiming the same people blamed that on human activity may be pushing it just a little bit though ;)

Right now I am busy with "The Ring of Nibelungen" cycle (Wagner) in Bavarian Bayreuth though, until Sunday. The Mecca of Wagnerites not to be mixed up with Beirut of Libanon, however...
