Americans in Germany and Japan are not immune from German or Japanese law -- these are countries that attacked us and were defeated. Iraq did not attack us and we chose anyway to invade, conquer and occupy their country. We painted a veneer of democracy on top of our occupation, but we kept all the privileges of a people who have crushed the civil society of another nation and who scoff at the thought that we should be submitted to their laws.
