Cooked meat, shellfish and cooked oils have oxidized cholesterol. We need to de-oxidize these items. COQ10 is a real biggie in that department. What we also need to do is stabilize our endothelium. This process is much more poorly understood than merely reduction of lipids. The goal should be to reduce TRIGLYCERIDES, HOMOCYSTEINE, APOLIPOROTEIN A, AND C-REACTIVE PROTEIN. B vitamins including niacin help do this. People who are high in these are 70% more likely to have a FATAL heart attack. Believe it or not, high cholesterol is not universally correlated with death by heart attack! It is a complex issue. 1. When people do not benefit by low fat diets or cholesterol reduction, they may only get benefit by increasing anti-oxidants. 2. Homocysteneurics may benefit by a massive increase in B vitamins. They have a very short life expectancy otherwise. 3. It has been found that since the supplementation of folic acid and vitamin B12 into white bread, both the Cancer and Heart disease rate of North Americans has decreased markedly. What this tells us, is that it is very important to keep serum level of anti-oxidants and B vitamins/lipotropics high. The Eskimo of Greenland has four factors much higher in his blood serum than North Americans. Magnesium, Vitamin E, Selenium, and anti-oxidant bioflavonoids. He gets 10% of our Heart Disease and Cancer rate. Perhaps these four pillars are the reason. They are mostly anti-oxidant in effect. The inuit's B12, C and folic acid would be high too, because of this fat raw meat and liver consumption. Good luck. Let me know about your Greenland trip. EC<:-}
