I doubt your claim the saddam did everything asked but on the larger point we agree. And given the growing iran threat to the region--US, Israel and sunni arab states--could have used a united iraq, first to thwart irans efforts in iraq and to the larger point have iraq as a blocking mechanism to growing iranian influence. Iran may turn out to be the most dangerous adversary we have and what did we do to help that?
1. removed their natural enemies on their borders---iraq and afganistan
2. refused to engage syria diplomatically to break them off from iran by having israel offer Golan for a deal.
3. refused to engage iran to see if what poster Sun says is their overarching desire to rejoin the family of nations.

I disliked Gore intensely and had planned to vote for Bush in 2000. My best instinct in the last 8 years was when i got into the voting booth and held my nose and voted for Gore. Bush either doesnt have the intelligence to be president or if he does just doesnt use it. Everytime i see him these days, he seems to be saying don't confuse me with facts. These days, i wish we had the british system. There is no way we wouldnt be going to elections now for a new PM. 2 more years of this guy in this time could be a disaster. So could a Howard Dean dem who might be replacing him in such a system.

But when Iraq had done everything asked of them, Bush went to war anyway.

Yes Carl.. we asked Saddam and his intelligence to have co-operative arrangements with Al Qai'da, to include high-level visits, reportedly by Zawahiri, to Baghdad at IIS invitation.

We asked Saddam to have his intelligence service target Americans in Somalia in 1993.

We asked Saddam to recruit pilots to be become suicide bombers.

We asked Saddam to maintain the means and intent to reconstitute his WMD programs as soon as the sanctions were lifted.

We also asked Saddam to bribe and corrupt the United Nations, via the Oil-for-Food program.

And we also asked Saddam to give $25,000 checks to the parents of suicide bombers who targeted Israel..

Yeah.. he did EVERYTHING WE ASKED... Yep...

And that's why 15 members of the UNSC, backed by all of their intelligence resources, had to unanimously agree that Saddam was in Material Breach of the Cease-Fire, established via UNSC 687..

Do you think if you keep saying that Saddam "did everything we asked" that it actually makes it truth??
