The Indians and the Chinese have been on their own for ~60 years, and the past 10-15 for both have been fantastic. They had a bunch of starts and stops, but eventually got it right, and are improving year by year now.

And how many people have had to die while waiting for the despots in charge to "get it right"?

Why not just "get it right" in the first place and not have to tear down an entire totalitarian and corrupt political/power infrastructure (with all of its vested interests) so that a democratic and capitalist one can be built to replace it??

Seems to me that the way to "figure out" what they want and need, is to require that every political and economic ideal be approved and/or rejected via the democratic process.

And if they want an Islamic Republic, why can't that ideological belief be confident enough to stand enduring free political opposition and a free press, and submit itself on a regular basis to re-confirmation in an free and fair electoral process??

Is that so wrong?
