"The Arabs want to kill the Israelis."

This is true only for a minority of Arabs. I'd LOVE to see us just let the Arabs and the Israelis "duke it out", WITHOUT our "rushing" bombs on credit to Israel. It might settle things there finally - but I think the Israelis would be a LOT more conservative about invading their neighbors without the backup of "the Great Satan".

It seems to me you hate each other in equal measure. YOU certainly hate Arabs as much as they hate Israelis.

It doesn't need to be OUR problem, and shouldn't be.

We have more often intervened to save the Arabs from Israeli retaliation for their attacks than the other way around. Perhaps we should have let them duke it out. But the Israeli Arab conflict always functions as a proxy. Used to be for the US/USSR; now it is for the US/Iran. So the US can't do what you ask without gravely harming itself. You can never seem to understand that.

The problem now is that if Olmert is to survive, he has to have a big win, and he cannot allow it to look like Washington is pulling the strings, this adventure looked too much like he was a puppet.

Also don't be too sure Russia isn't still pulling some of the strings in this mess.

<We have more often intervened to save the Arabs>

We are 100% on the side of Israel no matter what Israel does. We give them vast sums of money and see to it that they have the best weapons we can give them to kill "Arabs". We intervene to ensure that Israel has firepower unequalled in the region, and we intervene to ensure that no other power can rise to challenge Israeli military dominance. We turn a blind eye to Israeli atrocities.

We have formed a relationship with Israel like a mad dog on a an extremely long leash, allowing Israel to bite people at will, while once in a while tugging at the chain and saying "down boy". The worst policy mistake we have made is to allow Israel to expect unconditional US backing and to expect us to turn a blind eye to Israeli atrocities.
