Osama's grievance was not that the U.S. somehow walked away in 1991. He decided America was an enemy when they didn't leave Saudi Arabia and kept finding excuses to keep large number of troops there looking for flys. Of course.....military bases in Mecca just didn't fly with bin Laden. But it sounds so much better that American weakness encouraged him. The reality is that bin Laden could are less about the US. His focus is to create Islamic states. Speaking of which, the guy has always been a fairly strange dude. As early as his mid to late teens, he was going out to the desert sleeping on the sand without protection...living without AC. Assuming he's still alive which I find doubtful, I wonder if his kidney problems resulted from those desert campouts.
