Well, waddaya know. I think that's the first time I've rec'd one of your posts, EQ. Well said, in full.

I thought the same thing when I read the transcript, Mary doesn't have all her stuff together and apparently neither does "hubby", but that's to be expected. Most of us are not as financially astute as someone who's spent his/her full adult life in the field. I don't blame them for that--but not exactly "goobers and geezers", are they?

Nonetheless, Bob spent a lot of time with her. Agreed. Sounds to me like Mary was almost sure what she wanted to do and wanted Brinker to push her to the finish line--or wanted him to confirm to her husband that that's what they should do. She didn't get that from him, but that's not going to happen. He's not going to make individual decisions for people. He's not there to do that. He's there to advise. And it looks to me like he spent plenty of time with her and tried to advise her the best he could.

I think you might have missed something in translation.

At the time they bought the QQQQs on Brinker's advice in 2001, Bob would probably have suggested his P2.

It sounds like Mary bought the QQQQs on Bob's advice back in early 2001 which would be over 5 years ago. (Call Transcript investment.suite101.com )

I think she said she her husband had 4 years before retirement and she was cut off before she could say how long she had. She could easily be 20 years from retirement (I came really close to marying someone 17 years younger than me and I met others with far larger differences. I've seen pictures of Mrs. Bob Sr and she looks younger than Bob Sr by more than 17 years.)

Mary did not call the show to ask Bob for asset allocation advice but to see if he would be OK with selling something he recommended she buy that was down and offsetting it by selling something that was up. I think she wanted reassurance that the QQQQ's would not suddenly have the promised for counter trend rally.

My only fault with her was asking Bob what he felt the QQQQs would do.... He's already proven he has no clue on that matter.
