I am positive that Fitzgerald was aware of Armitage very early in the investigation. Fitzgerald probably concluded, quite rightly, that Armitage's disclosure to Novak, assuming that the story is true, was innocent. Remember that the report did not mention her so-called convert status. For Armitage to have been guilty, he would have had to have known that. I would like to see Armitage back in the next administration.

The Armitage connection has been rumored for some time. I remember reading an article (possibly by Isikoff) a year or two ago that the State Department had requested some backgrounc information on the always fashionable Ms. Plame and that Armitage had left a copy on his seat on Air Force One in the period immediately prior to Novak's column. I remember mentally scratching my head and saying, "Hmmmmm, that's very interesting." I was a little concerned that Novak's source might have been Powell. I know that he was questioned by Fitzgerald.

BTW, Fitzgerald is doing a wonderful job destroying what remains of the Daley machine. He just got some important convictions two levels down from Daley.

I like Gonzales. He would make a solid Supreme Court Justice. Too bad he won't get the chance.
