I think Iran has got the wrong idea. They have mistaken North Korea's actions as being successful. That's a little early in the game to assume.

Anyway, North Korea hasn't declared war on everyone else as Islamic Jihad has done. So it's not quite the same.

Iran will also have to have a means of delivery.

I really can't see the USA letting Iran run by a bunch of Islamic Jihadists become a major threat. Nobody, thinking about Adolf's outcomes would let him develop as he did. Iran is going to get the pressure. If Pakistan didn't already have nukes by the time Osama and Islamic Jihad became a major threat, you can be sure that they would not be getting them either. If Musharraf hadn't gone along with the USA, in the "with us or against us" decision, I think there might well have already been a nuclear rumble between India and Pakistan with the USA telling Pakistan that there would only be a heap of rubble left within their territory if they didn't disarm forthwith and find a peace with India. Note that Khan and Gaddafi were well into proliferation of nukes and the kibosh went on that pretty quickly.

When MAD doesn't work, pre-emptive is all that's left. MAD doesn't work against Islamic Jihad. They regularly blow themselves up. They have already expressed the thought that in an exchange with Iran, Israel would disappear and a fair bit of arable Iran would remain, which would be a victory for Islam.

"I think Iran wants nukes so that the US and Israel won't attack them."

They don't want to suffer Iraq's fate.
