There has been a tradition of respectful behavior demonstrated by former Presidents. After Teddy Roosevelt returned from Africa and openly criticised Taft it became apparent that such behavior was unbecoming of former Presidents and that it made governing more difficult.

The good behavior of former Presidents has generally earned them an honored position of being asked to advise by the sitting President. When the spoiled brats whose surnames both begin with C spout off publicly, they make it unlikely that their council would ever be sought.

It is becoming more apparent by the day that President Gerald Ford is more mentally alert than Carter is.
