I live much nearer Saratoga Springs. There isn't much of a bubble here either. Prices aren't that low though either. We are a little below the US average in this metro area.

Lake Placid is really nice, but a really small town. Damn cold in the winter, too. Remember the 1980 Winter Olympics?

Saratoga Springs is nicer in pretty much all respects except that it's not in the mountains.

Lots of summer homes in the Adirondacks. It's gorgeous country.
