Not to ummmm burst your bubble, but for a lot of people "Father knows best" was a lot like how we lived.... I must have missed the episodes where Robert Young swatted his kid across the room. Not an uncommon form of discipline in the 1950's. Maybe your neighborhood was different. Ours was blue collar neighborhood where most men came home from a steel mill or factory job and they weren't wearing jackets and ties at the dinner table. Bing Crosby may have sung about White Christmas but he was beating the sh!t out of the kids. jttmab
