An unusual number of inquiries within a short period of time is a red flag to a lending officer. It could indicate that the prospective borrower had been turned down by other lending institutions or is expanding debt rapidly.

A conscientious lending officer will determine why so many inquiries were made. It could be that the borrower was just shopping for the best deal.
