A family of Four could easily spend $10,000 a year at Wal-Mart

I can imagine some families doing that. Hard for me to imagine the average family doing that. It's also hard for me it imagine that Wal-Mart is 25% cheaper than anyplace else. Ten percent, maybe.

Just googled and found the source for that number.

>>Prof. Jerry Hausman of
MIT
has found that when Wal-Mart
enters a local market, food prices at all area retailers drop about 25
percent. According to a study by Global Insight, the average house-
hold saves over $2,300 per year shopping at Wal-Mart. $2,300 a
year. <<

I knew they didn't sell batteries and CDs for 25% less. As for groceries, there's such a small profit margin on them...

It isn't just money saved at Wal-Mart, it also forces other stores to lower their pricing to be competitive.
