Fie on me for neglecting to see your follow-up post, Mike, that repeats much of what I already babbled about.

Dave, I agree with most of your comments. I never did get why Love didn't make it. Of course, more recently, I can't figure out why Red Ryder wasn't a superstar act.

I disagree about Surrealistic Pillow. Grace's songs were a bit silly, but Marty had some real gems, such as "She Drives Funny Cars" and "I Saw You Coming Back to Me." And "After Bathing At Baxter's" was one of the all time great albums. "Sgt. Pepper" is the album I can no longer listen to. What a bunch of crap.

The Beach Boys were fine, but a bit puerile for my tastes ("We love surfing and fast cars and easy girls and our high school"). And when Brian wasn't with them, the falsetto was embarrassing. And sans falsetto, no there, there.

The best song from the era was "8:05" by Moby Grape, but their tunes were uneven in quality and nobody seemed to like each other after the first album.

Dave, I listened to Love's samples at Amazon. Think I (gratefully) missed the boat with that group.

Might I recommend...http://www.amazon.com/Swiss-Movement-Montreux/dp/B0000033T6/sr=1-4/qid=1156898274/ref=sr_1_4/104-4915958-9496758?ie=UTF8&s=music

It smokes.
