I would say the key question is whether force can produce political results as predicted by the rah-rah pro-force crowd, in the Clausewitz context of war as politics my other means. There was a huge assumption about the results it would achieve. The reality is much different. Some folks have noticed that. OThers refuse to back off from their fervently believed positions. That takes us to the definition of insanity as doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.
