I am not sure about that. I sense they instill discipline better and they do better on stuff that can be drilled. And, on average they score higher.

In the US there is no tracking- as there is in other countries- so a misstep at the lower levels, or being of the wrong "class", doesn't immeiately get you shunted into an alternative trade school system.

That is probably what is wrong with our system, but unless we really know how to fix that - we should leave it alone. That is also our greatest strength.
