oh give it a break. Even if Iran had a nuclear weapon and used it on the US, Iran would cease to exist, they know that.

I agree wholeheartedly with you!

IMO, Iran was inspired by China. From 1949 to about 1966, China was subjected to nuclear blackmail by the US. China put an abrupt stop to that blackmail by exploding its first atom bomb in 1966 and its first hydrogen bomb in 1968.)(Both of these nuclear bombs were of advanced design.) This made the playing field with the US more level and kept predators at bay! Iran, no doubt, is seeking to do the same.

However, I tend to suspect that Iran already has some nuclear weapons, most likely of the suitcase types, if not one or two nuclear bombs purchased from Russia. And, with its own missiles to deliver them, Iran is adopting a defiant stance.

As the US had used nukes twice (when actually one or even none would have sufficed to force Japan to surrender in 1945), I won't be surprised if it the US's turn to be nuked the next time around, especially when Bush and his neocons (or New Con Men) keep acting as if they can ride roughshod over everyone else.

Why is the US interested in Iran? Two reasons, as I see it:

1. To secure the Straits of Hormuz --- the vital waterway for the safe passage of oil from the Middle East (also known as "the prize" in Nixon's words in the early 1970s)

2. and thereby help Israel in the creation creation of Eretz Israel and for it to be a quasi US state/watchdog in the Middle East.

No doubt achievement of #1 & #2 will ensure the hegemony of the US over the rest of the world !!! Looks good and sounds good for the neoncons, eh?
