It's very interesting that the fabric of the paleocons view of the world like in issues like world trade, immigration and the middle east. Positions taken here drive them to an isolationist view of the world. But for a democracy it is very difficult to dump another democracy like israel, so there is a need to demonize that country as well as the bush admin. Buchanan went as far during the Gulf War and earlier to flirt with holocaust denial which to his credit, he dropped once he realized that he had been duped. Its so easly to imagine a Fortress American where mexicans arent welcome along with goods from china and other parts of the world. In their world, the wars are fought abroad and our slogan is a pox on all others. It is so utterly a reactionary doctrine that it amazes me that how so easily the left has been duped into accepting it as syl apparently does. The choice is between bush/neocon against a realist alternative, but not an alternative that denys the way the world has changed since the turn of the twentieth century much less the 21st.
