Interesting, Lorne, but as someone who is not a Muslim, it doesn't really matter to me what the origins of their rituals are. Catholicism in Europe was spread in some cases by converting pagan rituals and worshippings into Christian versions with saints substituted. Judeo-Christian texts are shown to have some origins that far precede when they were written and shared by different ancient cultures. You are probably aware that there is some pretty bizarre stuff in the Bible and I assume the Judaic equivalents, about God smiting those who spill their seed, exhortations to genocide of other groups by the Jews, Lot sleeping with his daughters, etc. Best not to take all this stuff too literally. The problem is, when one starts taking a hostile stance towards Muslims or other people, the result is that they become more insular and more included to believe radical things in their insularity.
