I'm beginning to conclude we need to separate two different logics. The one logic, the one that calls up the Hitler analogies, is a logic of mobilization. There is this clear enemy, goes the logic, we need only scare/threaten/frighten folk into mobilizing. The other logic, the logic of analysis, is meant to determine precisely what the problem is.

The Rumsfelds of the world are absolutely certain they know who the enemy. Just have to scare us into supporting their analysis.

Hopefully, one of the very few benefits of the Iraq fiasco is to illustrate just how deadly wrong the Rumsfelds are.
