I worked as a kid for a few months in a meat packing plant. I well remember shovelling spillage from huge vats of reddish "meat" off the concrete floor. It looked just like red vomit. It probably made good sausages, though.

I don't get too obsessed about sodium. It is the potassium ratio that is far more critical. I use half and half and I avoid most processed foods most of the time. The ion exchange requires our electrolytes...but they must be balanced.
