The response in Iraq is not commensurate. Occupying Afghanistan was. Capturing Bin Laden would be. What the Brits did recently is.

Should they achieve the weaponry, would they escalate further to hundreds of thousands or even millions? Of course.

This is the grist of the issue. Tell me the weaponry required to destroy the US, our government, our civilization and our way of life, then tell me how bad guys get it then tell me how bad guys use it to end up ruling the United States.

We know how Germany and Japan tried to do it, so all I am asking is the same analysis now. How does the US become an Islamic Republic?

The fatal flaw in your argument is assuming the infinite linear scalability of the escalation in terrorist damage. A critical policy response to the current threat has to focus on the reality of that scalability, and design a commensurate response.

I am looking really hard at your analysis. Where's the beef?

Have they moved from killing one or two to dozens to hundreds to thousands? Should they achieve the weaponry, would they escalate further to hundreds of thousands or even millions? Of course.

But would even millions be a threat to the existence of the US or the west?

I'm not downplaying the threat, a terrorist with a nuke is a very serious threat, but even than probably not a threat to the west's existence.
