The statement shows such a lack of perspective that it hardly matters what the book says, and it fact it serves as a recommendation against the book.

Reading the book is about as necessary to determine that it is ridiculous as reading a book that claimed that we should wear foil hats to protect us from government mind control would be necessary. I'm not saying the book Fiasco is that ridiculous or useless. I might actually read it. But that one quote is one of the stupidest I've encountered recently, and that's a level of stupidity not easily reached considering some of what gets posted on SI.

Its not like the claims by some that Bush is the worst US president ever, its more analogous to claiming that Bush was the worst leader of any kind in human history. Its that ridiculous. To say that this war shows poorer planning than say Crassus's campaign against the Parthians or Saddam's defense against the coalition forces in the Gulf War, or Custer's last stand or even the Gallipoli campaign, just to name a few is beyond silly.
