Sure, we killed millions in Vietnam, but it was nowhere near as badly bungled as Iraq has been. Yes, we went to war in Vietnam based on a phony pretext, so it has something in common with Iraq. But nothing holds a candle to Iraq in terms of lying bombast and ineptitude. Every day that Rumsfeld is employed by the US government is an insult to the American people.

I agree that there are lots of candidates for the worst military mess in history. You listed a number of them. I doubt that Iraq could win in an objective comparison. Might not even make the top ten. But it's still a doozy, IMO in large part because it was so voluntary and avoidable.
