This parsing reminds me too much of those arguments that insist, that even with our torture and our renditions, we are still not as bad as the "terrists".

I would hope the greatest nation on earth would aim a little higher.

I've listed very elective blunders with far more dire consequences than Iraq.

I would caution you that you are comparing historical events with an unfolding event. We do not yet know the full consequences of Iraq. It contains the seed of a possibility of igniting something mortally destructive to life as we know it. Probably not, but not something that can be ruled out. You may be discounting it as much as others are over-stating it.
