Amazing how you capture the essence of Brazil on a short article. I was not one of the chosen ones. In fact people like me were chosen to lose. The day I discover the system was geared against me I prepared my strategy to beat the system at its own game and on its on rules. First: Taxes was feeding the privileged middle class. I had to stop paying it. Second: I had to find somewhere a niche where no one was looking too much and grab my share of the money bag. Telecommunications was that sector. Then I had this opportunity to go to Africa. Got out when 'decada perdida' was one year old (1983). I'm still working outside the system avoiding it to appropriate of my discretionary income. I was lucky to like to study. Not that I liked the school a crafty slanted system to choose who wins and who loses. I read gazillions of books. That was what made possible to see the system as it is and allowed me to create my strategy. I',m my own social security. I'm my own insurance company. I can't depend on the government here. You know the country grows while the goevrnment is asleep as they say here.
