Wow: I had no idea that Vandy beat the Vols ( ever ). I live in Virginia and you would be surprised how many Tennessee football fans there are in Virginia. You would also be surprised how many UNC basketball fans there are in our town. When UNC play VT in Blacksburg ( basketball ) half the kids I see with UNC blue on are the local high school kids. There are a good many Duke fans also.I think Dean Smith and Coach K are like icons to these kids, Dean Smith to the older ones and Coach K to the younger ones.

That is the greatest thing about college sports. State affiliations seem to warrant little loyalty. At college games between VT and UVA you see all these cars with stickers for both teams going down the highway. I am sure it is the same for every instate rivalry in America. ( put another way it would seem that marriage possibilities are not limited to college sports affiliations ). We actually had a local business man get arrested for starting a fight on Main Street because he is a passionate U Miami fan. He shoved a local coach at the high school and was arrested for assault. The judge I think mercifully gave him a few hours of community service just to prove a point, but we all know the guy, he is harmless, he just loves the Canes with a passion and none of can figure it out....

Makes this thread all the more fun.....Gregor
