John Lennon used to say that life is what happens while you are sitting around trying to figure out what to do. Society is what happens while people sit around debating how other people should be and act. The idea that there is a magic switch one can flip and reverse changes is....well, I won't even go into the adjectives. Stuff happens. Society happens. Massive shifts like changes in the roles of the sexes can't be green-lighted or red-lighted once they are already established, just because someone doesn't think they made their case. My favorite phrase in Croatian is "Kako je, tako je." More or less, "It is how it is." Though if that is wrong, can I abolish rap music if they don't make a case to keep it around that I consider valid? Please? ;<)
