Broadcom Shares Fall After NJ Antitrust Case Against Qualcomm Is Dismissed

NEW YORK (AP) -- Shares of Broadcom Corp., a supplier of semiconductors used in communications devices, slipped in Friday afternoon trading after a New Jersey court dismissed the company's antitrust complaint against Qualcomm Inc. without prejudice.
Undeterred by the ruling, Broadcom said it plans to continue to pursue federal antitrust claims against Qualcomm.

Deutsche Bank analyst Ross Seymore, who has a "Buy" rating on the stock, noted that the case dismissal did not rule on the validity of Broadcom's claims, and said it shouldn't affect Broadcom's patent litigation against Qualcomm.

In May 2005, Broadcom filed a federal lawsuit against Qualcomm, alleging the San Diego-based wireless technology developer with infringing upon some of its patents.

Shares of Broadcom, which have traded between $21.98 and $50 over the last year, were down $1.08, or 3.7 percent, at $28.31 on the Nasdaq, while shares of Qualcomm were up 97 cents, or 2.6 percent, at $38.64.

Should read: or Will read: just put a sell rateing on the stock after Broadcom suffered yet another court room patent litigation loss and now has only its ---- to hold in its hand.
