The Jefferson Airplane of "It's No Secret." With Signe Tolle Anderson. And the drummer, Skip Spence, left the Airplane to play guitar and sing with Moby Grape. They did a really great version of It's No Secret on the live album, Bless It's Pointed Little Head. But that was with the second lineup.

I used to see The Grateful Dead playing for free all the time in Golden Gate Park and other plazas and squares in the city. I didn't see the Airplane in person until they made a surprise visit at a concert at The Avalon Ballroom. My girlfriend and I had gone to see Canned Heat and Paul Butterfield, neither of which were particular favorites of mine. But the girl was, so I went along with her choice. Around Midnight the Airplane came out and played an hour set, then the instrumentalists from all the bands jammed for another two hours while the headline singers bugged out. Paul Butterfield on harmonica and Jack Cassidy on base pretty much cut everyone else, but Jorma got in some hot shots every now and then. It was fun and I scored afterward, which was the whole point. <G>
