Well you certainly have a short or defective memory.

Ronald Reagan's staff was negotiating with the new Iranian government for several months before he became President.

Apparently you don't recall his "arms for hostages" exchange.

Reagan let Iran know that his offer of armaments to Iran was valid only if the hostages from the American Embassy in Iran were released after Reagan was sworn in as President.

This was big news in the United States when it was finally revealed. Perhaps this news didn't make it to New Zealand.
