The whole subhuman Islamic world is watching the prospects for success of the anti-American Democrats before deciding to choose sides. It happens every time a nation goes to war without first defeating their DOMESTIC enemy.

The war is HERE. It has ALWAYS been HERE. THAT is the lesson of Vietnam, and those Oprahamericans who ignore it are doomed to see their nation destroyed...

"Assuming Iraq actually has the capability to become a "beacon of freedom" (it would be nice, but I question the possibility), I'd think that rather than becoming a model to be emulated, it would become instead a threat to all the other regimes in the region.

I very much doubt, for example, that the royal families in Jordan, Saudi Arabia, or even Kuwait would like to see democracy succeed in Iraq."

Very true. It has been said that there is almost unlimited funding for the terrorists in Iraq from Saudi Arabia, Syria, Iran and a few other Arab nations. A democratic Iraq would provide a beacon of freedom in the Middle East. People who are frustrated by being treated as serfs by their rulers might start emigrating to a place where there is a promise of success based on one's own efforts.

Even a good effort to provide hope for the Middle East will inspire more people to yearn for their freedom than just rubber stamping another tyrannical dictator. Remember that without France's help, the American experiment might not have been allowed to succeed. Can we really turn our backs on freedom loving people?

We know the left's answer, Clinton created the Wet Foot Dry Foot doctrine and sent back a group apprehended on a bridge after they had made land; he sent Illian Gonzalez back. I do not recall condemnation for either of these acts from any on the left.
