I am not convinced you can really make much difference at all in the big bodies like Congress; you might get a more elevated bully pulpit for diffusing your views, but having an impact on policy or how Washington works is pretty much a pipe dream. Certainly not commensurate with burden you bear getting into office then pleasing everyone enough to stay there. Maybe one day I will end up on a city council if I settle in a tiny rural hamlet I want to "transform", LOL. Unlikely. Not living in the hamlet, but wanting to take on the burden of everyone's problems.
